2004 Atlanta Flames Coaching Staff

Head Coach & General Manager: Lynne Russell

Lynne Russell is excited to continue in the head coaching role for the 2018 - 2019 2004 Atlanta Flames.  Lynne is a former middle infielder for Georgia Tech and went on to play for several adult teams prior to beginning her coaching career.  She started playing softball when she was seven years old, initially with Briarcliff Community Sports and then on travel teams.  Once she finished her  playing career, her love of softball led her to begin her coaching career at Murphey Candler Park, where she coached for five seasons (Rec and All Star) and then assumed the role as Assistant Coach for the 10U Atlanta Flames during the 2013 - 2014 season.

Lynne is married, has a daughter on the 2004 Atlanta Flames and has an eleven year old son who plays travel baseball. She is a Sr. Director of Real Estate & Facilities Project Management, Systems & Support at Turner.

Assistant Coach: Scott Smith

Scott Smith is also excited to coach another year with the 14U Atlanta Flames.  He previously coached the Dirt Dawgs – Mizuno (Norcross) from 2015 – 2016 out of Pinckneyville Park in Norcross.  Prior to the Dirt Dawgs, he was head coach of recreational softball teams at Pinckneyville Park for 7 seasons, head coach of 2 All-star teams, and assistant coach of 2 All-star teams.  The 2015 10U Norcross All-Stars ended their season undefeated winning all 4 tournaments in which they participated, including the USSSA State Championship.  Scott has also coached baseball at Pinckneyville Park for 12 seasons.  He is an active member at Pinckneyville Park, serving on the Baseball Board and volunteering in several other capacities.  He began playing baseball at the age of 5 and played through high school in Tucker, GA, mostly as a middle infielder. 

 

Scott is married and has a daughter on the 2004 Atlanta Flames, as well as a son who plays baseball at Pinckneyville Park.  He is a microbiologist and division safety manager at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where he has worked for 14 years.      

 

Assistant Coach: Mike Puckett

Mike Puckett, a lifelong Dunwoody resident, is entering his 10th year with the Atlanta Flames (five years as head coach). He played four years of baseball at Peachtree before heading to UGA.  He started coaching baseball at NYO in 1989.  In 2004, he began coaching softball at Murphey Candler and coached the 2007 8U Select Team.  In 2008, he became the Head Coach for the Atlanta Flames 12U team.  He has been a Board Member at Murphey Candler Girls Softball since 2008.

Mike has a daughter on the 2004 Atlanta Flames also.  It’s hard to imagine a life outside of softball, but he also works in the residential construction business.

Assistant Coach: Anna Swafford

The Atlanta Flames welcome back Anna Swafford to the coaching staff of the 2004 Atlanta Flames coaching staff. Anna played for the University of Georgia during the 2011 - 2015 seasons.  During this time, she played in 236 games, while starting 221 games for the Bulldogs. She finished her career ranked 7th on the all-time home run list with 43, 5th in runs with 182 and 7th in triples with 10. In her time at Georgia, Swafford recorded 75 stolen bases and ended her career with .594 slugging percentage and .879 fielding percentage.  Stafford also received both her Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.

Since graduation, she has been teaching, coaching and is a hitting instructor.
